Following significant weight loss, the skin does not always fully conform to the body's new shape. The skin will likely begin to sag after it loses elasticity. The thigh area is one of the areas of the body that is most effected by this problem.

Thanks to a highly effective cosmetic surgical procedure, known as thigh lift surgery, that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs, a solution is available. Thigh lift surgery is capable of dramatically improving the thigh area, as well as enhance the overall appearance of the figure.

Developing a secondary problem such as sagging, excess skin can be very frustrating after working hard to lose a significant amount of weight.

You could possibly be a candidate for a thighplasty procedure if you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity of the hip, buttock, or thigh areas. Another reason that you may desire a thigh lift is if your skin in the thigh area has an orange peel, is saggy, is flabby, or has a dimpled appearance. Thighplasty can also be indicated if the appearance of your thigh improves dramatically when you lift the extra skin. You may also want to look into a thighplasty if you are self-conscious about your lower body appearance. A thigh lift is intended to produce more attractive, tighter buttock and thigh skin with improved contours. It is also intended to decrease skin surface irregularities.

Thighplasty is performed on an outpatient basis and under general anesthesia unless otherwise advised by a plastic surgeon. There is a wide range of variations that are possible in the design of the incisions to meet personal or clothing desires. Lifting the inner thighs requires only short incisions that extend from the anterior part of the groin/thigh crease to the buttock crease. Anterior or lateral thighplasty can be performed as separate procedures if you desire. The buttocks can be lifted with lower or upper scars. The plastic surgeon will be able to show you what specific procedures are available to you to resolve your specific issues.

At the end of surgery, the patient is placed in a compression garment to assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin and also to reduce swelling. For a smaller thigh lift, initial discomfort is usually easily controlled with prescribed pain medication. For a larger thigh lift, one to two nights care in a hospital or nursing facility is typically required.
